You should be flossing on a daily basis along with brushing your teeth. Food and debris will build up between your teeth, which makes dental flossing very important. Flossing will remove plaque and debris in areas that your toothbrush isn’t able to reach. A plaque buildup can generally lead to gum problems or tooth decay, which is why flossing is is just as important. If you floss right after brushing, you’ll notice and feel that your gums and teeth will be much healthier.

Bleeding of the gums is the main reason many people have against flossing. Gum bleeding happens because when you floss, it gets between your teeth and around your gums and the the floss will rub against your gums. Many people thinks it is not right and immediately stop and forgets flossing usually for good. Bleeding is a common part of the flossing process and should be expected with flossing.

If you are afraid flossing because of the bleeding, you should really get over that fear and consider it a part of flossing activity. Keeping your teeth and gums healthy, you will need to brush and floss your teeth.

There are two types of dental floss – single filament and nylon. You can get nylon either waxed or un-waxed. They also come in several different flavors. Nylon floss is composed of several strands of nylon material that which can tear, shred, or snag between the teeth if it gets caught on the sharp part of your teeth. The single filament floss is more expensive than nylon but it will slide easily between teeth, even tight areas and spaces. Also, it is also impossible to shred or tear unlike nylon.

No matter which type of floss you choose, as long you floss regularly, it will remove debris from your teeth and gums. If you’ve never done flossing before, you will probably be astonished at just how much debris and food particles it can remove. Flossing is recommended by dentists because it can reach places that even the smallest of toothbrushes can’t. Yes, a regular checkup with your dentist will help as well and it is up to you to continue your regular maintenance at home with brushing and flossing. You will quickly realize just how clean your teeth and gums will be if you floss on regular basis.
